1804 silver dollar sells for $2.5 million
This coin literally has doubled in value in three years. It's the
Adams specimen, Class III, probably made in 1858. It's last appearance at a public auction was in July 2003 when it brought $1,207,500, the first Class III 1804 dollar to break the million dollar mark. Three of the six known Class III specimens are in museums: Smithsonian, ANA, and American Numismatic Society. -donn- |

It wuz first slabbed by PCGS as a PF45, then slabbed by NGC as a PF50, then reslabbed by PCGS as a PF58. That was all the way back in 2003, though, so I suspect it might be up to a PF61 or PF62 by now ... -- Ken Barr Numismatics P. O.
