Santorum in PA = GONE Reynolds in NY = GONE Macacawitz in VA = GONE Burns in MT = GONE Chaffee in RI = GONE Talent in MO = GONE Noodles = GONE Hopefully, for your boys, your political predictions are more accurate than the Noodles' one. He shows no sign of leaving. Unless you mean "he's a real gone cat"? Which is some hepcat talk. At any rate, these elections serve as reminders to all parties that *sometimes* there is a reckoning. Other times the voters give you a break. If your bunch gets turfed out, regroup and be a good opposition when needed. It will be interesting to see if voter turnout will be high. In Winnipeg's recent civic elections only 36% of the eligibles bothered to cast a vote. Sickening, and it brings up the usual talk of fining citizens who neglect to exercise their franchise. An interesting bit in the National Post this morning regarding the Montana situation: http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/c...7-465027b2836e And, ouch, that Charlie Crist snub in Florida must have had the Prez boiling. |

Unless you mean "he's a real gone cat"? snip Quite right. Actually, just from the written record, Noodles has been "gone" since at least 2001, and I'm sure for decades before that. Which is some hepcat talk. snip Paging Alan Ginsberg.... Sickening, and it brings up the usual talk of fining citizens who neglect to exercise their franchise. snip That's roughly double what our last municipal election pulled. The result was that a mixture of embedded development interests, as well as an "indentity politics" shill, were returned to office to further screw up the city. Also, national elections in Canada always seem to draw a larger percentage than most do in the US since Nixon permanently damaged American politics with his Watergate kerfuffle. I believe that if a US citizen does NOT vote, he should have his income taxed an additional 10%. I've thought that for years. In pervious eras, such a scheme would've been nigh impossible to administer, but in this day of wideband data and dime-a-dozen computing power, it could be as easy as how municipalities now tell the DMV that you have outstanding parking tickets. An interesting bit in the National Post this morning regarding the Montana situation: http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/c...7-465027b2836e snip An accurate assessment of Montana. The United Mine Workers ran the politics there longer than just to 1950, and they are still a force to be reckoned with up there. Mike Mansfield...now THERE was an intelligent chap whose eloquence on the Senate floor was unparalled. In fact, the entire machination of Washington has melted into a trashy blather ever since the "idiot in chief" was "selected" in 2000. For awhile, it almost seemed that coarse language usage and poor speaking skills seemed to be assets. A pretty large indictment of the US public at large, I might add. And, ouch, that Charlie Crist snub in Florida must have had the Prez boiling. snip I'm sure it raise Karl Rove's blood pressure even more than it already is. I doubt "the prez" is smart enough to know the ramifications. I never thought we'd see another one as dumb as Warren G. Hardin actually sitting in the Oval Office, but there he is...for now, at least. Many Texans refer to their former governor as a "pole turtle," explanation there not necessary. It's not looking good for Harold Ford, due to the high "church nutter" turnout in Tennessee, and all the illegal campaign goings-on there and in other tight states. We may well end up with a 50/50 (actually 49/1/50) Senate, but without the House to back them up, it still remains a stalemate until '08. I believe the US must scrap, in an orderly way, its current form of government and adopt the British parliamentary system. It seems to work quite well up there and in Oz, eh? |
