Framing Question
I have a fairly large card poster that was signed by a band last year, I took
it to a framing shop and had a custom frame made. Anyway Ive now read on here that frames shouldnt have the glass touch the picture, my frame doesnt have a border, it is signed in black sharpie, should I be worried? thanks Chris |

Yes, you should. With out a mat board to separate the photo from the glass,
humidity can get caught under the frame and cause some of the photo, color, etc to migrate to the glass or worse, cause the piece to stick to the glass after time and totally ruin the piece. It's very important to have the piece matted. Rag mat is the best but regular paper mat board which is cheaper, is acid neutralized with Calcium Carbonate to render the fibers acid neutralized. I do picture framing...so I know. Also, ask for UV BLOCKING glass...it's treated on one side (the side towards the art) to block 99% of the harmful UV light rays, which fade art and photographs (and ink signatures!). It costs a few dollars more, but could make a major difference in your investment. |
