For those who like statistics only.

The month of June 2009 was the one with the most postings during that
year: 738 .

In 2010 the situation is totally different. So far the month of June
2010 had the smallest number of postings: 118. The champion was the
month of January, with 440.

I hope that statistics won't remain the only subject posted on RCSD and
that then, how an old joke sais, the last participant will have to turn
the lights off . :-)

Part of the reason for the decline in postings is that many ISP's,
including Verizon, have completely eliminated carriage of newsgroups in
the past year. It started earlier with the elimination of .alt groups.

There are free news servers out there. aioe.org is one that I use.

But then of course, you could switch ISP's to one that uses GigaNews ...!

No need to make such a drastic change. aioe.org fits nicely in my
Thunderbird folders without disturbing my Verizon account.

I also use Xnews, a separate news reader program, along with the
Teranews service to access binary newsgroups.

My previous ISP, Adelphia, used Giganews, but of course Adelphia bit the
dust a few years back.
