Default 1870-71 Alsace-Lorraine cover analysis

Are there any reference works that would help establish a price for
the 1870-71 Alsace-Lorraine occupation cover? If so, what are they?

http://cjoint.com/?hiaAK1HoYt

"Price" could be either catalogue value or sale price from a dealer to
a collector.

Cover is from occupied France (Muhlhausen) to unoccupied France
(Bordeaux) at a time when the 1st weight increment rate within the
occupied territory was 20 centimes and the equivalent rate within
unoccupied France was 25 centimes.

The hand-written "25" represents the amount due within unoccupied
France.

Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Hi Stan:

You might have a better chance of an answer if you post this in the
French philately news group (FRP).

Most Alsace-Lorraine covers that I have seen lately were in
collections,
along with other covers and postal history. Thus, there was only an
estimate for the whole collection.

If you need assistance for a translation into French,
I would be happy to assist you.

Regards
Blair

Stan, my guess would be about 75 ¤

A quick search yielded the same kind of cover, except double weight (so
40c + 40c), Mulhausen horseshie date stamp in blue, unsold at 120 ¤.

http://cjoint.com/?hitzof1hif

(Roumet sale #512, may 2008).

And, in oct 1871, it is a Germany to France cover. No longer occupied
and non occupied France.

The dealer that sells most of those pieces is STRAPHIL because it is
from Strasbourg, capital from Alsace!

Here a link from a page of his last "vente sur offre" :

http://www.straphil.fr/vente-sur-off...mkt=1278610446

I'll get the results (prices) next week, but I think they should also
be published on their site!!

75 ¤ would be a good price for your letter I think.

I had not finished!!

it exist catalogue for all those cancelations, they was issued by the
SPAL:
Association des Spécialistes en Marques Postales et Oblitérations
d'Alsace - Lorraine (SPAL)

Coordonnées personnelles du président:
M. Alain Sturm
14 chemin Fried
67100 STRASBOURG

03 88 84 17 10
Réunions : 3ème dimanche à 9h30 (sauf en juillet et en août)
YG Hôtel 14, rue Jean Monnet - Eckbolsheim
Lorraine - N° FFAP VI-84 (SPAL)

I have not found an Internet Site!

All catalogue are relatively old issues and are not easy to be found
because German collectors search it always!!!

Thanks to all. The SPAL site (thanks Sir F. A. Rien)! has lists of
sales and prices, prices that suggest that the estimates given in
response to my question are reasonable. A search of Delcampe for
similar covers found several, and all with starting bids in the same
general range.

Blair's offer made a lot of sense and was appreciated, but Bruno and
Jean-Pierre managed to provide French Rec Philatelie input without
testing my high school French or Blair's undoubtedly better ability
with the language.

The cover was bought for a modest exhibit, and I was using Maury 2009
for inventory and write-up reasons. Maury had some similar covers,
but nothing that really matched, and the vaguely similar covers were
priced far higher than seemed reasonable. Bruno and Jean-Pierre
confirmed that "vaguely similar" was not good enough, as exactly
similar covers probably sell for 50 to 100 Euros.

As a secondary comment, I enjoy the great amount of information
provided by Maury, but Bruno made a very good point that by October
1871, the Franco-Prussian War had been over for several months, and
Muhhausen was now part of Germany, not "occupied territory," despite
the wording in Maury.

Thanks for the help.

Quality is important, too. Your cover is very good-looking, indeed.

Best regards,
