Default Porcelain Egg with Face

We're restoring a circa-1890 home in the Chestnut Hill area of
Baltimore. While tearing out a wall, we discovered a porcelain egg
with a face. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

If you're interested, a picture is at: http://saros.tzo.com/egg.jpg

Thanks...
