The Library of the American Numismatic Society is seeking
applicants for the position of Cataloger.


Responsibilities:
Original and copy-cataloging of all materials received by the
library, including numismatic journal articles. Maintain and update
the
library's online subject heading list. Ongoing editing of records in
library database. Share in reader orientation and supervision of
part-time staff. Should also expect to share in other library duties
when Librarian is not present.


Requirements:
MLS/IS from an accredited ALA library school. Strong
arts/humanities background. Recent work experience in an academic or
museum setting preferred. Reading knowledge of French, German, and
Italian. Ability to utilize AACR2, LCSH, MARC formats. Applicant
should be computer- literate, skilled in database and internet search
procedures, familiar with library website applications and possess
good oral and written
communication skills.


The American Numismatic Society Library:
Founded in 1858, the American Numismatic Society is presently
located at 96 Fulton Street in Lower Manhattan. The Library supports
the informational needs of staff, membership and the general public
through the acquisition, cataloging and referencing of numismatic
publications, domestic and foreign. Society programs such as the
Summer Seminar have required a library collection that will support
graduate level research. To meet these needs, the Library maintains a
core collection of the early works on numismatics as well as the key
numismatic references published over the centuries. The Library
collection includes approximately 100,000 volumes. Some 350 current
periodical titles are received and 250 dealers regularly send their
auction catalogs and fixed price lists to the Library.

Library Staff
The Library has two full-time professionals and one part-time
student assist ant who works approximately twenty hours per week
during the school term and expanded hours during the summer school
break. The Cataloger reports to the Librarian.


Salary range: $38,000-$43,000, depending upon qualifications and
experience. The Society has a liberal benefits and vacation policy.
