Need info on Northern Bank's temporary £10note
To any Irish note experts out there,
As originally reported in Inside IBNS 1/05, in the wake of a £26.5 million (US$43.1 million) heist of its cash center in Belfast on December 20, 2004, the Northern Bank decided to replace all of its circulating notes--except the polymer £5 (Pick 203)--worth approximately £300 million. This new series of notes was issued on March 14, 2005, and is similar to the previous series (Pick 198 - 201), but feature different color schemes, a revised bank logo, a new serial number prefix, and a new date of issue. Prior to the new series of notes, Northern Bank also issued a revised 10 pound note, dated 29 April 2004. It is dark brown and violet on m/c unpt. like Pick 198, but with the new italicized logo. According to a NB press release, it was issued from ATMs starting in January 2005. I have seen the scan of same on Ron Wise's site: http://aes.iupui.edu/rwise/banknotes...orthernPNew-10 Pounds-NB-2004-donatedfvt_f.jpg What I'm interested in learning is how many of these notes were issued, what is their serial number range, and for how long were they available to the public before being replaced by the new 10 pound note dated 19 January 2005? For anyone interested in the heist, here's a good article: http://www.crimelibrary.com/gangster...ists/index.htm l |

As there is only space for a serial number going up to 1,000,000 the maximum number of notes that could have been issued would be 1,000,000 but I don't know how many were printed. Billy |
