news:NElcf.314937$084.164323@attbi_s22... Interestingly, no mention is made that individual states could not institute a state religion. The 14th Amendment (ratified in 1868) requires states to guarantee fundamental rights such as the First Amendment's prohibition against the establishment of religion. This means that states, like the federal government, can "make no law respecting an establishment of religion." |

A clear and unambiguous reading of the 1st amendment provides only that congress may not institute a state religion, as was done in England. The clear meaning being that congress was not to meddle in religion, not the other way around. Interestingly, no mention is made that individual states could not institute a state religion. "David Hicks" wrote in message k.net... The terror that PRESIDENT BUSH is doing his part to defeat is rooted in a long time family feud that has its origins in supernatural, i.e. SPIRITUAL realms-of-being several degrees above the President's and Osama's paygrade. Osama and his followers are "sons of Ishmael." All of us who resist them in their efforts to establish their global caliphate are "sons of Issac." Issac is the daddy of Jacob whose name was changed, by God Himself, to "Israel." Liberals are dead-wrong when they categorize this strife as only a POLITICAL struggle; saying it is about nothing but "oil" or "money" or "halliburton." This strife is about God and and the rebellion of a prince in God's Court. That noble and fallen prince is named Satan. And the evil of Satan is most evidenced with the practices of ABORTION and HOMOSEXUALITY. Both of these geivous sins are related because they BOTH destroy God's plan to populate the earth with His planet Earth with more of HIS people to fight the final battle. It boils down to good versus evil and those who don't know it or refuse to believe it are spiritually speaking, as deluded as Mohammed. God in Christ sits at the top of the heap. When the Big Moment comes for resolution of this conflict, people better hope they are raputured and will leave this planet because it is about to become a very unhappy place. Door... hit... ass... BTW, your meds need adjusted. |

"Edna Jo" wrote in message ink.net... People says gays is denied equal protection under the law, and that gays pays taxes so they should have equal rights to be gay and get married to his partner...If a thief has a 9-5 day job and pays his taxes just like everyone else does this give him the right to go home, change his clothes and be a thief by night? It is basically the same line of thinking. Lots of laws are being changed these days to suit the people who are doing wrong and yes the Bible is brought up a lot because that is where our morals originated from. In it, it states that to lay with a person of the same sex is an "abomination against GOD"! It seems that we turn our heads a lot when it comes to our own children. I live in a small town and we don't even have a curfew because the parents think that it violates our children's rights. So we have more children robbing houses and getting by with it because it might violate the childs rights. So where does it actually start & stop with the "LEGAL" rights. Seems like everyone wants to change each law to suit their own needs. Why should non believers in Christianity or members of other faiths be bound by your ideas of morals? |

They have certainly spent lots of money on political activities in the past. Perhaps hurricane Katrina has led them to re-focus on helping the needy rather then attempting to curtail people's civil rights. We shall see when the next US election cycle comes around. And I hadn't heard anything about the water issue, so I did a little research on the subject. There's always two sides to every argument such as this, your side and the right side: http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?ID=22001 Wonderfully evasive article. They dance around the issue with multiple repetitions that they had other water to distribute and they never really state categorically if they did, or did not, hand out the A-B water... No religious organization is perfect, and every one is made up of a lot of individuals. There's always some that don't do what is right, but as a whole, groups like the SBC do a lot more good than the bad that evil people would like to make them out to have done. So, you mentioned a couple little irks that you don't like about the SBC, trying to make them look bad. What have YOU done for mankind lately?
