Default Rowe/Ami cd Eagle wall unit -can't initialize 00 disk

I just got a Rowe/Ami CD Eagle wall unit -can't initialize 00 disk. I can enter the Service ModeInitialize Disk, and type 00 for the disk (and then hit the preferred button), and the amount of tracks(and then hit the preferred button again.
I go out of the service mode and try to select disk 00 and the machine doesn't allow me to enter the second 0 for 00 for the disk selection.
I can do 100 disk and all other disk selections seem to work.
Is there a way of entering 00 disk for your selection?
Thanks in advance-Joseph

Sounds like a program bug to me. Really weird.
What version ROM do you have ? (you can find this info in the "Status"
menu).
Latest I am aware of is version 4.3

It could be just a dodgy/intermittent "0" button of course. To
confirm, try shorting the terminals of the button out
from behind using a coin or similar and see if it works.

The good news is that If you replace disc 00, you don't have to
actually "initialise" it from the initialize menu.
Simply put the new disc in and select and PLAY the first track from
it
ie. Select 0001 (you can cancel it as soon as it starts playing the
song if you want, it doesn't have to play right through).

Initialisation is done automatically by the machine every time THAT
disc is played. This works with any disc position.

This is a newbe question but how do I update the rom firmware? Under status, it states ccc prog ver 21.
Just a further nuisance, when I burn a cd album ie: one track for all songs, i and install it in the machine, the disk plays about 3/4 the way through and cancels. I have tried to initialize several of these disks as 1 track, and 10 tracks, etc. to no avail.

Overall I feel lucky as these are really only small inconveniences. I bought the machine for 200.00 dollars (us), and I have heard some real horror stories about the way some machines really can drive someone nuts.
Thanks-Joseph

That would be a weak laser. I have had that problem. When in a normal
home
CD player the CD will play to the end, only if started before the
"weak" area.
If you start the disc at "say" track 15, it might not be able to start
from there,
but might continue from there if started at track 10 for example

The reason you cant "play through" on the juke box is because the
thing probably "starts" each
track from the beginning, doesn't just continuously play through hence
the problem.
Burnt discs aren't as good a quality as commercial ones, this likely
makes the problem worse on a weak player.

You may be able to get around this by buying a brand new CD writer and
making sure discs are burnt at 8-12x max.
Fast burn speeds tend to weaken the writing laser rapidly.

You can't update the firmware except by buying the new IC and
physically replacing it.
IF you had the file, an EPROM eraser & burner you could do it
yourself.
If this is the only
problem you have, it probably isn't worth the hassle.

That is a give away price, they still sell for thousands in AUS.
We have a lot of ROWE machines with the same mech as this
and they are excellent machines, but as anything ages, you get
problems.
