Default FAQ for this group?

Hi,

I used to hang out here a lot but have been away for quite a while. I've
been linking to the RCB FAQ from my website, but just found the link is
dead.

Can anyone tell me where it's moved? I hope it's still around somewhere, as
I often have pointed folks to it for book care tips.

cheers!
Denise

The old link appears dead.
RCB, like most of the Usenet, is likewise moribund.

Yep, I was wondering if the FAQ had been moved to a new address.

Too bad to see all the spam here these days ~ this used to be such a cool
place.

cheers~
Denise

You can find a copy of the FAQ here, posted on one of the
"collecting banter" boards

http://www.collectingbanter.com/showthread.php?t=18036

The best thing would probably be to copy and paste it all into a document
for your own reference, which you could then keep.

The reason that this NewsGroup is to all intents and purpsoses dead is mainly
because of the foul-mouthed behaviour of the likes of RF.

Who for all his mealy mouthed excuses about Usenet being moribund -
which it isn't - can take satisfaction in the fact that if he's achieve
nothing else in his sad little life, he almost singlehandedly destroyed
one of the most useful NewsGroups on the UseNet. And this despite repeated
appeals by the founders of the NG to modify his behaviour.

There isn't a FAQ for this newsgroup any longer. It has to be
published and no longer is since the link is dead. This means that
the group is now open for book sale ads, etc. to be posted.

This just isn't true. The founders destroyed the group because they
were unwilling to allow book reviews and other posts that were
slightly off-topic. RF and other interesting, entertaining and
offbeat posters were relentlessly persecuted and criticized, causing
the group's demise.

This sort of snarky stuff & off-topic crud is exactly why I stopped coming
here in the first place.

This is not supposed to be a place for ads & reviews; it's a place to
discuss book collecting.

Thanks.

Yeah this used to be a great place for book collectors. No more, it seems.
Real sad.

But one of the criteria in determining the collectibility of a book is
the contents and whether or not it is a quality read......thus another
reason why the newsgroup is dead....ignorant suppression of book
content discussion.

The group would have flourished even more if ads for collectible books
were encouraged. Only books that are signed or exceedingly rare
should be listed (ie. fine bindings, limited editions....etc.)

The deranged are a hazard on the internet as in any area of life.

I can even forgive the sale items (as a constant stream of newbies
didn't bother to read the FAQ and posted sale items).
Some of the apologies even appeared to be heartfelt.

I think the group died a death because people stopped asking
interesting questions - possibily as the quality of book sites
improved and much of the information became available elsewhere. Near
the top of Google searches.

I only pop in now and again to look after the trolls. Clip nails,
change the water bowls etc.
