united states of america 2 dollar bill, HELP!!!!
i am looking to find out the value of the following currency.
its a 2 dollar american bill which according to my grandfather was issued in their bicentenial year of 1976 and was then cancelled on the first day of issue. He has stuck 2 stamps on it which he thought would increase its value, the stamps are; 1 is a white 13c stamp with an eagle on it and the other is a stamp with chemistry written on it with picture of mixture of bottles used with chemistry. Hopefully someone out there will be able to tell me if it is worth anything!! Many thanks Loz. |

This was a big fad back in the 1970s and lots of people got their $2 notes
cancelled at the post office. For a short time there was even a club devoted to collecting these cancelled notes. However today you would be lucky to get the value of the stamps as a premium over the face value of the note. Alan Herbert The AnswerMan |

You might get a bit more than $2 for it if you can find a collector of cancellation marks and he has interest in yours. If it's readable, where is the postmark from? Otherwise, any numismatic value that note may have had was destroyed by affixing stamps and ink marks. Such $2 notes can be gotten from almost any bank and can be spent anywhere, even though they are not frequently met in daily commerce - they have no particular value above face value.
