From the Provasek (prosovek prozacset - whatever) school of marketing.
(This is long - more of a rant, really.)
Is it loony season? I got this from an ebayer I bought from once - a zillion years ago. " Thank You for your recent ebay purchase we would like to direct you to our site www.*******andelectronic.citymaker.com we offer everything that we had on ebay at cheaper rates without the auction hassle "THANKS M**" The silly semi-literate wench didn't even use a BCC list. So, I replied to all, with "Please join me in reporting this person to eBay, AOL and Spamcop for spamming us. Her provider will fine her $50 per validated report. "AOL's address is . "The link to report her on eBay is: http://snipurl.com/g04b . "Spamcop is located at www.spamcop.net. "Do you really want to do more business with a spammer? Especially one that just passed out your email addresses, like she did? "Angela ***** Hoffman Estates, IL eBay's ***** ***-***-**** (phone)" The $50 per report is part of her TOS with citymaker.com. The beauty is that they bill it directly to her credit card. So, I expected to get a nasty note from the spammer, but this is what I got. Sent again to all the addresses. D & D White wrote: Angela, Please do not be offended by my comments, as I do not have ill feelings toward your message. Personally, I have no problem with this company. In fact, your complaint caused me to go to their web site, and buy three items that looked like very good values! Everyone, I will appreciate it if you delete my email from this "chain." I also appreciate the right to keep "spam" out of your inbox, just as I endeavor to do. However, one person's spam, can be another person's link to acquiring products and services. There are numerous ways to block undesirable email, thus eliminate anything you regard as spam. I do this all the time. Best regards, and God Bless the most awesome nation on the planet, on this important day in world history!!! (signed) D The "I bought 3 items!" makes me suspect that the spammer is associated with this account. However, because it seems to be written better, I do not think it is the spammer. (It was dated July 4th.) Apparently s/he likes to sort spam! I'm so tempted...oh, never mind. This really is just a bit of silliness. I have too many other things to do. So, because the very nature of being me dictates that I have to, I respond to the whole list: Well, perhaps if she had actually *sent* me the item I paid for I would feel differently about her. And by the way, Spam is defined as unsolicited commercial email. If you bought from her as a result of her email, you're part of the reason that people like her fill our boxes up with junk that we have to block! Me, I'm determined to dissaude the other 872 sellers I've dealt with on eBay from deciding to spam me, too. Perhaps it is best if you just block *my* emails. If you don't want to hear from me, blame the spammer. After all, she's the one who passed out your address to the rest of the world. The best part about this is that the spammer's site is quickly becoming associated with a bunch of goofs. Nobody cares if she sent me my stuff, but hopefully they'll get a sub conscious bad taste in their mouth just because they're caught up in an email discussion between dumb (me) and dumber ("D"). This morning, I got this from "D." Hello, Angela! Hopefully, you paid for your item with a credit card, or with a VISA or MC debit card that your bank allows you to treat as a credit card. Assuming the charge was put through for your purchase, simply notify your bank that you never received the merchandise, and they will credit your account. It's an easy process, and it's why I never allow a debit out of my checking account for the Paypal purchases I make. Knowing that I am protected like that, gives me some peace of mind when I encounter situations like you have encountered. She is obviously an amateur entrepreneur. I sent a second private note to her that had she "bcc" everyone, she would have isolated angry folks, plus, she would not have compromised her mailing list to competitors, and potentially given my email out to a lot of bad players. A lot of people don't understand the value of using "bcc" in emails to protect addresses. When "bcc" is used, each others' addresses are invisible to the "chain." I have a great firewall, and anti-spam protection and am very satisfied with most of the mail that hits my inbox (it's called "F-Secure in case you are interested in a powerful firewall, virus and spam blocker). I do get some bad stuff on occasion - the ebay and PayPal scams are the worst. On the other hand, my office email is flooded every day with pornographic garbage, college degree offers, medicines and other spam that my employer has failed to block. That's the stuff that gets me bent out of shape. I enjoy a good "cause" as you seem to, as well. I just didn't have a problem with her. There is spam, and then there is spam......... In this case, my name was on the list simply because I had made a previous purchase - that is not the kind of spam that drives me crazy. Again, I suggest, if you have not already done so, to start using blocking software, etc. I won't block your email, unless you tell me you are on some sort of nutty vendetta, which I doubt. You seem like a nice person, and someone that will not abuse my email. I enjoy an occasional exchange with folks I don't know. That, by the way, does not mean I will retain your email address. By the time the dust settles, and the messages get deleted, I will no longer have it. Regards, Dave ok....I don't know *what* to make of that. But who here thought that "D" was a female? Maybe you had to see all the flags and smilies in the original HTML to get that, plus the spammer is a scrapbooking supplies seller. In the any event, I'm not replying. It was just to me, not the group. Unless he was BCCing the group. . I'm still hoping for a reply from the original spammer. If my previous communications with her are any indication, she's not much in the personality department. A |

" Thank You for your recent ebay purchase we would like to direct you to our site www.*******andelectronic.citymaker.com we offer everything that we had on ebay at cheaper rates without the auction hassle "THANKS M**" The only problem with dealing outside of e-Bay is that you lose the protection that e-Bay provides. E-Bay warns its customers to avoid offers to buy outside of their protection. But, then they don't get their listing fee nor their selling fee. So what is their real incentive--your protection or their money??? Robert |

You must not have minded too much, since you reposted the entire thing. What she's describing is the same thing Frank has admitted to doing himself; sending commercial solicitations to people via e-mail just because they once bought something. Hence the reference in the subject line. -Bertha If you have a business relationship, it cannot be considered spam. Check out the spam law. I'd go to court on this premise: When I agreed to the eBay TOS, I saw that it specifically forbids sellers from contacting me with aftermarket crap. I maintain the agreement the seller signed with eBay is the same one I signed, and they agreed not to email me when they signed up. Therefore, there is a pre-existing contract we held in common, that being the terms of the venue. So, you're breaking the terms of the original deal we had agreed to before I even stumbled across your stupid little auction when you send me an email. So it is SPAM. Put that in your Chinese baby and smoke it, loser. A |

I don't appreciate my name being brought up in this topic. Notice how an

Frank I just want everyone to know that I have been a customer of Frank Provasek for years and he is a very honest and ethical coin dealer. I do not understand this vindetta against him. I to have been a customer of Mr.Provasek but only for a few months. He has been very good to do business with. It seems there are those near-do-wells who have nothing in their life but to find fault with others. What has that to do with the coin hobby? |
