I thought of that...I tried blocking off parts of the bill with plain
paper...

even blocks a postage stamp size area of the bill from being scanned....

My guess is that it responds to the background patterns.

Another thought that I just had is howabout trying to scan it through
something that is mildly translucent, such that the note would be
'fuzzed' slightly?

Are we talking about how you can't scan certain new banknotes because there
is anti-counterfeiting technology built into new scanners/graphics programs?

If so, this topic has been discussed at length in the past. The "solution"
is to continue to use an older version of the software which doesn't block
you from scanning. For example, Adobe Photoshop 7 doesn't care about the
constellations printed on new notes that prevent scanning, but the newer
version does. As a result, I will not be updating to a newer version of
Photoshop in the future. Smooth move, Adobe.

Not just photo editing software, but scanner and printer drivers, too.

This might create a market for older editing software and drivers.

Anyone want Micrografx Windows Draw 1995 edition, going cheap, only
$1,000.

Old drivers for a Black Widow scanner only $1,5000. :-) Billy

Yes, you can get away with using older software, scanner and copier for now.
But for how long? I suspect the next generation operation system may not
support them.

Windows '95 available for only $500. :-)

I'm still using it. Billy

I realize that eventually I may have to upgrade and be forced to buy a
device with one of these anti-counterfeiting technologies built in, but I
will resist that move as long as I can.

Besides, I have a Mac, and they are great for being able to run very old
software and hardware compatibly with newer versions of the OS.

And nothing says I can't keep a virtually worthless computer set up with an
old scanner to allow me to continue to scan banknotes for legit purposes.

That, and I expect hackers will release (if they haven't already) patches to
disable this troublesome "feature."
