Straits Settlements cancelled with D14 Killer
Dear all
I was just wondering, if anyone can tell me, where were all straits settlements stamps cancelled, when they are struck with a "D14" killer? Can't be Singapore, Penang or Malacca I think? They are B172, B109 and B142 respectively. Any help is appreciated Alfred |

G'day Alfred, it is a Penang cancellation. It is the Singapore D14 Duplex obliterator. I can send further info if required. Rodney "Alfred" wrote in message ... Finally found what I was looking for, go here, and navigate to "The first issue of the Straits Settlements" http://www.stampdomain.com/country/malaya/display.htm HTH Alfred. I looked at the site in question and found the D14 killer in combo with the Singapore date cancel. Also, I found the D17 killer in combo with the Penang date cancel. So far so good. You concur that D14 is a Singapor cancel, yet you also state D14 killer is a PENANG cancel Was this a TYPO for D17? Blair .. |

On page http://www.stamp2.com/articles/specialised/tss/2.asp the D14 Singapore duokex cancel is clearly shown (also on cover). The notation under the duplex is in ERROR when it identifies it as a PENANG duplex. It is obviously a Singapore DUPLEX. On page http://www.stamp2.com/articles/specialised/tss/5.asp we see the Penang D17 duplex cancel on cover. Blair |

Straits Settlements cancelled with D14 Killer
G'day Blair, No not a typo. I am happy to stand corrected, however, as I see it. Penang, Malacca and Singapore became a crown colony. The D14 obliterator with "Singapore" on it was issued to Singapore and Penang. Therefore the D14 could be either, and (probably) be identified by the strikes. I meddle around the fringes of the Straits setts, but certainly no authority, I'll duck back to the site, to see if what I understand is correct. Probably lack of good sentence structure, I meant it to be the Singapore duplex that also could be a Penang strike. "Blair (TC)" wrote in message ... Well if this is indeed the case, I'll adjust my records
I had it down as Penang and Singapore under D14 numerals. I reckon that D14 on the java cover still reads Singapore! I am still open to be convinced. "Blair (TC)" wrote in message ... Robson Lowe concurs: "The normal British duplex type in general issue
with D14 and D17 in the upright heavy barred oval for Singapore and Penang respectively. None was issued for Malacca." Antipodean Tony |
