Default Private feedback

Another dealer I know keeps his feedback and bidder lists private to keep
people from "stealing" customers. He deals mainly in sports autographs (largest
selling catagory on ebay). When you order photo's from photofile everyone gets
the same picture, other dealers lurk in Ebay searching for people selling an
item they have, they would then look at the number of bids on the item page and
contact everyone who had bid and direct them to their own item. By making the
bidder list private he stopped this problem.
Ebay has taken preventative steps themselves to prevent this, now only the
seller can view the e-mail addresses. Anyone else has to send an e-mail thru
ebay. If you are caught trying to undercut someone you get a one month
suspention for auction interference.
There are also software programs that keep track of who bids on items and also
automaticaly contacts them to alert them to your items. IE, if you have had or
do have a Johnny Depp photo for sale it will search ebay archives and current
auctions to see who has bid on or won a Johnny Depp item and alert them to your
item. If you hide your feedback it can not see who won.

By stealing customers, what I meant was emailing the people or taking
their names off Ebay and putting them on a spam list and soliciting
their auctions and telling the people how bad the other dealer
is...that sort of thing. Not copying their photos to make copies.
