Well I can't tell if it is real or not but in the case of such a much- counterfeited coin, I'd certainly want one that was certified by a reputable TPG. Coincidentally this week's Numismatic News has a feature about fake 55 DD cents. |

To much money to risk?!?!? might have something to do with realizing that "slabbery" is an imprecise art and a racket |

"H. Renfro" wrote in message .. . I'll never understand why someone would bid on a key date unslabbed coin. To much money to risk?!?!? might have something to do with realizing that "slabbery" is an imprecise art and a racket Grading is the imprecise art involved, whether a coin is raw or slabbed. Authentication is much less a matter of imprecision. The informed collector knows which coins are the most likely to be faked, and, unfortunately, the list of those coins grows daily. The uninformed collector, of which there are plenty, buys raw key date coins entirely at his own peril, and thereby contributes to the success of the crooks. They are the ones supporting the "racket," not the knowledgeable collectors. James |
