Default How to Sell My Grandfather's Collection

I've been lugging around my grandfather's collection, which I
inherited, for ages. He died forty years ago. I was wondering: what's
the best way to sell it? I took some pictures, and exported them to the
Web he

Hello Ben:

I looked at your website. No world cruise, I'm afraid.

Most of the stamps in your photos are minimum value
and the damaged stamps (stained, folded, torn, etc...)
have no value.

My suggestion would be to donate it to a young collector
(perhaps a descendant of your grandfather) as a starter
for or addition to their collection.

The value that they offer is in the enjoyable hours and
learning possibilities that they will bring to their new owner.

I hope that this has been helpful.

Blair

The rcsd FAQ, posted every two weeks or so, should have an entry on this.
It should be on your newsserver.

Unless there is something valuable not visible or not noticed by me, I
would guess a value under $50, depending on the total count. Some of the
stamps appear torn, some appear glued down (judging from pages torn when
some were removed), and some appear to have been attacked with cellophane
tape (judging from the brown squares on both pages and stamps). All of
these have no value unless they had extra value to begin with, and then the
value would be greatly reduced.

May I suggest my recent article, "What to do when you inherit stamps,"
which is available on my club's web site, at
http://www.bcphilatelic.org/bcphilnewadditions.html. (I concur with the
other opinions that have been expressed -- not much of cash value, it
seems. However, a careful hunt could certainly turn up some collectible
stamps.

Ben,
Please follow Blairs' suggestion ;-)
There is nothing for a young/new collector as magic as going through these
'very old' stamps of mysterious far-away places("Look, this one is even from
before WW 1").
Maybe if there's a stamp collecting club for kids nearby, you could have
them handle it.

Bye
Jan
