Default Pro-dollar coin editorial

Give us dollar coins to use as real money

Dollar coins bearing the likenesses of past presidents will begin circulating
in February and will extend for a decade, much as state quarters were
distributed. The significant difference, continuing the dismal record of Susan
B. Anthony and Sacagawea dollars, is that nobody will use the coins to buy
something. That will happen only when the dollar bill is eliminated and the $2
bill expanded.

One quick thought that I had on this is that even though this may come over as
being somewhat 'cynical', on a serious note, perhaps, due to its isolation
from the rest of the USA, Hawaii could serve as a good 'test market' for doing
just that. Start sending $2 FRNs and Sacs/Prezzes and stop sending 'pennies'
and new $1 FRNs to the Islands and see how well it works.

Just like with Ecuador, it has to be a real costly hassle shipping all of
those $1 notes (new ones west and ratty worn out ones east) and new 'pennies'
across so much ocean. That is why Ecuador doesn't even bother with 'pennies'
and $1 FRNs and gladly accepted the Sac coins.
