Default Your Other Hobbies?

Occasionally when I was a member of the Diablo Numismatic Society in
California we had an "Other Hobbies" night when we discussed our other non
numismatic hobbies.

Mine are model railroads, primarily the 1920's era Wabash and Southern
Pacific, and also plastic model aircraft, primarily 1920-1940's Soviet
X-Planes. The first is because some of my ancestors worked on the
railroads, the latter because who knows?

My wife and I collect Meiji period Japanese gin bari vases. I find them
beautiful, locating perfect ones is a challenge, and they're affordable.

Aside from numismatics,I,too, enjoy model railroading.I am presently working
on rebuilding an old Lionel locomotive (50's vintage) actually cleaning it
up and getting it into working order.I already have my next project
planned-to restore and rebuild an old American Flyer I happened across. Its a
wreck,but I have a locomotive and Coal Car,and a small section of track.I
want to finish my present project before delving into trying to locate the
necessary parts-I know its going to run into money, but thats part of the
price you pay.

A conclusion is simply the place
where you decided to stop thinking.

Well... for me in terms of collecting it has to be stones. Nothing
fancy nothing with geological (yikes) connections and certainly
nothing of value to anyone else. No gems, semi-precious of shinies in
my collection.

Just stones... got some really nice ones though!

Stamps... (sorry guys) but only Victorian... nothing new fangled.

Seems I have always been a collector.

Things I have collected in the past but don't presently:
Matchbooks when I was a kid, stamps, postcards, pens and pencils.

Things I collect a little more often than occasionally:
rocks and minerals, Indian Artifacts, pencil sharpeners,
Metal fantasy figurines.

Coins tokens and medals are my main interest however
I do paint in oil, water color, pastels and sculpt in stone and wood
particularly Alabaster and Mahogany. I build furniture ocassionally
and prefer to work in a Western or Southwest style.

I have spent a lot on photograpy and the equipment to take and develop
images but don't presently pursue that hobby. That stuff is gathering dust.

I also like to metal detect and plan on getting a new Whites IDX or the next
one up
this summer.

I have tried many hobbies the one that has always held my interest is
collecting coins, medals and tokens.

Dale

My eight year old son "enjoys" same, surely it is a measure of maturity.
