(stamps) A Small and a Large please...
Greetings,
Anyone know and have a Scan of the Worlds Smallest Postage Stamp that was actually available to the public for Mail? Also, the Largest? If this is not actually known, how about some scans of some small and large ones with measurements? |

The smallest stamp, and airmail.
http://cjoint.com/data/kixoQB6Z2n.htm The smallest Post Office, was the PO taken to the moon, myriads of others qualify. Largest stamp (now) may possibly be Bhutan or Mongolia, many are doubtful as to their ability to carry postage (eg Fujeira stamp) The largest quoted often on this NG is the 1913 10c Chinese Express postage stamp (in 4 parts) measuring 9.75" x 2.75" HTH "phantomm_1" wrote in message ... Somewhere in my collections I have a $5 Australia stamp I consider the largest. It is almost as large as a post card. I have what I consider the worlds largeat souvenir sheet. It was isssued to commemorate the successwful bid for the 2008 Olympics. 18.7 inches by 10.6 inches. Actually the sheet contains three smaller souvenir sheets of 12 stamps. This was the largest stamp ever produced, the 5 shilling william dampier of Australia. It was later disqualified as they couldn't find a cover big enough to hold the stamp. http://cjoint.com/data/kjrSTUhJ1h.htm "Blair" wrote in message ... This was the largest stamp ever produced, IMPERIAL EXPRESS LETTER STAMP & COVER Express letter stamps are one of the most fascinating issues of the imperial era. Not only being the largest stamp in the world, it is also a postal record, postage stamp and postal receipts all in one. The express letter service was initiated on the 4th. of NOVEMBER 1905. Trying to win over long time user of the 'MIN CHU' postal system. It first serviced between Peking, Tientsin and Shanghai and was expanded to 51 towns in 1909 and 72 towns by the end of the Imperial period. Each of these towns was assigned different indexes from the '1000 words essay' in which none of the words are duplicated and thus unique to the town. The '1000 words essay' was exhausted by the end of the Imperial period a nd 2 character indexes appear in the early Republics. Minimum records are found on which stamp is first issued and until today no persons are sure of which of the two first issues was actually issued first. These 'so called' express stamps are issued in strips of four (parts 'A' to 'D' from left to right). The first part 'A' on the left is a post office record of the mail sent, the second part 'B' (DRAGON'S HEAD) is the receipt signed by the recipient, the third part 'C' (DRAGON'S BODY) is the 10 cent stamp charged to the sender, and the right part 'D' (DRAGON'S TAIL) is the sender receipt issued to the sender when the mail was sent. The dragon's head and body were pasted on the letter and on arrival, the postman will peeled both parts off the mail. After the recipient signed both parts, the dragon's head (PART 'B') was sent back to the issuing office as a proof of delivery and the dragon’s body (PART 'C') was kept by the postman who cashed it in for an award of 1 cent. Express letter stamps, 1906 second issue perf. 11 10c. olive-green and pale green, complete stamp numbered "50", of fine appearance with all four portions, counterfoil with rough margin at left from where it was removed from the booklet, central row of perfs. split and reinforced, violet postman’s chops, rare.
