mint coin rolls - keep in roll or break out?
Paper rolls - and even the plastic rolls - are way down on the list of safe
storage media. Best bet, get some inert plastic coin tubes and put the rolls in them, especially if you are going to keep the rolls for more than a couple of months. Alan Herbert The AnswerMan |

Alan Herbert The AnswerMan Thanks, again! for sharing your advice, Alan Herbert. I like this one very well because it affords me an excuse to inspect, coin by coin, the four machine-wrapped early memorial Lincoln rolls I was handed a few weeks ago. If I find any 1959-D wheatback cents I promise to reveal it. ;-) Alan 'going for the bonus round' |

rolled coins from the mint. Would they tend to have a greater value left in these rols, or broken out and sold off individually My notion is keep them in the original holder. Remember the Delaware Mini-bags? 8-/ Coin Saver |

I've seen bags of quarters ruined after just one year in the bag. JAM |

I'm not a gambler so I don't buy coins that I can't examine first. "Sealed sets", "original" rolls just don't interest me. JAM |

Okay........Thanks.
Don "JIM" wrote in message ... All the coins that were in contact with the bag have developed a unattractive hazy toning. I buy coins not bags. I'm not a gambler [... snip ...] rolls just don't interest me. OK. Butt that does not mean that others cannot be interested in them, correct? I'm "just not that interested" in ancients; does that mean I cannot advise someone about olive oil? There are Mint-Sewn Mini-Bag collectors and Mint-Rolled collectors, who would be willing to pay an additional premium for an undisturbed specimen, regardless of their contents' toning. I do not collect the Mint-Rolled State Quarters (which, by the way, started with the issuance of the New Hampshire Quarter). But some do. I have bought, on a lark or two, a few of these rolls, and left them undisturbed. Right now, my 80 NH ones are worth more as a unit than if they'd been busted out and graded MS60. There is one thing I have done. I placed them in a plastic vaccuum package to minimize their exposure to the elements (I use a FoodSaver unit). 8-/ Coin Saver |

Collect what you like, that's the whole idea. One of the reasons that we use the rcc is to get all the information we can on the subject. Vacuum bagging sounds like a good idea. Throw a piece of Intercept Shield or a Metal SAFE http://tinyurl.com/g4zu And you should have it made. JAM |
