Excellent Ink Mixing Combo From an FPN'er!
Awhile back some guy on Amazon was writing reviews of books he had
never read. He'd start the review with, "I've never read this book, but . . . " This guy was a joker and he knew he was a joker. But jokers on FPN don't know they're jokers The thread is about your favorite Diamine ink. The poster is CharlieB, an apparently prolific FPN poster who I'm not very familiar with, and this is the entire post. The topic is, "Most Favorite Diamine Ink": begin quote I have never tried this, but I'm thinking that I would probably like a 50/50 mix of Diamine Royal Blue (which I find to be too light) and Diamine Sapphire (which I find to be too purple). The other blue inks made by Diamine all have a too much green in them. I've never tried the WES Imperial. end quote http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/fo...ic=54864&st=15 But that's not all. Later in the same thread, he admits he's never even tried Royal Blue (which he finds too light) or Sapphire (which he finds too purple). Here he lists Royal Blue _and_ Sapphire among the inks he would _like_ to try: begin quote I'm interested in trying: --Saddle Brown --Sapphire Blue --WES Imperial Blue --Royal Blue end quote http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/fo...ic=54864&st=60 I didn't quote the whole post on this one--no reason to--the rest of it was garbage. In fact, all of it is garbage. 98% of the posts on FPN are garbage. |

I'd argue 95%, but your point is taken.

I think many of us do make those decisions based on samples we see. That said, many times, the way the ink looks on paper isn't the way it looks in a photo on the web taken by someone who doesn't know how to color-correct. I just sold 15 bottles of Noodler's blues after my soak tests -- some were inks I liked, but I picked how many I wanted to keep and figured out which ones I liked less. -- _Deirdre web: http://deirdre.net blog: http://dsmoen.livejournal.com/ "Memes are a hoax! That said, many times, the way the ink looks on paper isn't the way it looks in a photo on the web taken by someone who doesn't know how to color-correct. Sometimes the inks look like scans and online swatches, but my experience is most of the times they don't. I've found they're not reliable. What's more reliable is a description from somebody who knows up from down. But most people on FPN don't know up from down. That post is more an example of wasted bandwidth on FPN than anything else. But that's hardly news. I did think it was kind of funny. Here I am this morning scrolling through that thread to see if there's any reliablie information on some Diamine ink I don't have and I come across that bull****. The topic was supposed to be about one's favorite Diamine ink. And you've got to scroll through mostly bull**** to see if there's anything there. People on FPN will post what their favorite ink is if they have only two inks--or only one ink. I don't even know why I was there this morning--well, I had about 20 minutes to kill. What a way to kill time. I just sold 15 bottles of Noodler's blues after my soak tests -- some were inks I liked, but I picked how many I wanted to keep and figured out which ones I liked less. I could probably get rid of all my Noodler's blues except Baystate. A couple are kind of interesting, but the PR equivalents are a little brighter. |

I could probably get rid of all my Noodler's blues except Baystate. A couple are kind of interesting, but the PR equivalents are a little brighter. I like PR Blue Suede bunches, but I have more Noodler's because they're permanent. -- _Deirdre web: http://deirdre.net blog: http://dsmoen.livejournal.com/ "Memes are a hoax! Pass it on!" |

Yeah, but don't the permanent Noodler's blues look pretty much the same? I don't know if I have but two, both from Swisher's. I can't remember the names right now but I remember they both look like crap, too crappy to use, if you ask me. |

I've got 13 that are at least semi-bulletproof or waterproof. Sure, some are similar, but others aren't. -- _Deirdre web: http://deirdre.net blog: http://dsmoen.livejournal.com/ "Memes are a hoax!
