I thought about this..... But I do not think that I do enough

Direct T.V. system. Do you want to buy a dish setup with 2
receivers and the blue cards? Only a year old this last month.

Just curious, why did you switch from Dish to Direct? I know Direct is the
way to go if you are a sports nut.

'has Dish'

I have Dish and, except for some periods of instable weather, I like it.
Dropped the cable company some time ago, due to incessant price increases and
won't be going back. Miss those weather channel local forecasts, but get all
the sports I can watch. (mostly Cub Baseball)

I'm very satisfied with Dish service. I am thinking about going back to
cable though, since they added broadband to the package. I presently have
DSL (800k), but the cable company guarantees broadband at 3megs!! Before I
switch, I want to make sure it's not *up to* 3megs. Big difference between
a sure connection speed and up to speeds.

It amazes me that some on this NG live in more populated spots than I, and
can't get anything faster than dial up.No rhyme or reason to the way
availability works

My cable connection is usually in the range of 350K to 600K...at least that's
what
Realone tells me...never seen even 1 meg

Comcast gives me a pretty steady 1600K -- but that's only because it's
throttled to T1 speeds. Back in the olden days of @home, I would
routinely get 40 *mega*bit transfer rates -- close to the theoretical
limit of cable. As a shared pipe, one's bandwidth goes down as more
people get online -- but I am on a *very* quiet segment. On busy
segments, people were complaining that they were getting poor
performance because a few people were using most of the bandwidth
(dl'ing pr0n and mp3z, most likely). AT&T's "solution" was to limit
everyone to T1 speed (which is not particularly slow), and that stopped
the major downloaders and satisfied the casual surfers. From my point of
view, however, my bandwidth was cut 20-fold, and I was not particularly
happy about it (grrrr....).
