That Bears Auction I had mentioned
A week or so ago I posted a question if anyone though I might have
overbid on this package: 2 Bears tickets (first tier middle section, north end of field) 1 Autographed Team football (proof of Authenticity/Donated by the Chicago Bears) 1 VERY large signed Brian Urlacher photo (16x20 I think) framed and matted (at the time though I think I forgot to put the size; I had assumed it was an 8x10 then) 1 Bears Pullover 1 Chicago Whitesox think windbreaker type jacket (I didn't know about this item and don't think I mentioned it either) Dinner for 2 at a local Steakhouse One night at the Hyatt Regency I had bid 651.00. Two people responded and said I overbid quite a lot. I thought maybe I overbid a hundred bucks at most maybe (depending on the football price) but after adding in the jacket and seeing the framed size of the Urlacher photo, I felt I was probably right at the package cost. People around us said we overbid here too. I just found out I didn't win it but it went for 1275 bucks! And you thought I was nuts. Someone from Hawaii won it and they have to fly in for the game (October 20th I think they said it was). NOW who is crazy! LOL |

That Bears Auction I had mentioned
well, to tell you the truth...if it's a regular season bears game,
they are sold out like, forever. that is one of those teams that season tickets have to be willed to you. and in the new stadium that i think is less than 2 years old. it probably next to impossible to get the bears tickets to begin with. so those tickets really could have an enormous price tag anyway (depending on where the seats are). next, chicago bears teams signed football. this probably comes with a letter of authenticity from the team. well, i imagine that since most autographers would love to sell a team football for around $200, one with a LOA from the team itself could fetch 3-$400 anyway. brian urlacher 16x20, $100, framing, probably a little more than that. so just the autographed items alone you're probably looking at $500. dinner at the chicago steakhouse is easily $100, windbreakers, even at the cheap end of $25 ea, that's pretty good. night at hyatt regency during football season, $150-$300 easily... $600 isn't a bad price. $1200 probably isn't either (that may still be low.). and someone from hawaii probably never has the opporitunity to get all that stuff as well. top it off, this was probably a charity thing, those things tend to be more expensive than they are worth anyway... it was probably a deal. m |

The only killer for me was the airfare... but then again, I flew there for less than 24 hours to see the King Tut exhibit last year so what the hell. I didn't like the fact that they don't contact you to let you know if you won after the bid. It was an "online" auction, followed by a "live auction" which you don't get to be privy too. It was a new format for me; I've never been involved in this type of auction. |

LOL The company I work for typically holds a similar auction once a year with proceeds going to the United Way. Most items go for double their actual value, really good items can go 4 or 5 times the real cost because the bidder wants to make a nice donation. Also since the bidding is openly viewable for the 2 weeks of the auction (You write your name, bid and extension on the sheet that's with the item.) it's somewhat a status thing. I don't know if the auction your refering to is a charity event or not, but if it is the people from Hawaii may not even bother to use the seats/hotel. Of course it's also possible they live in Hawaii now but are from Chicago and will be visiting their old stomping grounds that week. Best, Bill |

To console myself, I just bought a Star Wars graph. And I am watchin a Harry Potter graph. |
