1964 Proof Accented Hair Kenneday half question
Hi. I'm back (not that anyone missed me!) Anyway, can someone point me to
some good pics that show the difference between the Kennedy half accented hair and the regular proof? I guess I really need to see them side by side to tell the difference! Thanks, all, in advance! |

It's easiet to check the reverse. All Accented Hair 1964 Proof halves have the
Type One reverse. No regular hair 1964 Proof halves have the Type One reverse. .. To tell the Type one reverse, look at the four stars to the right of the eagle's head and neck. There is a ray that touches the right side of two of the stars. On the Type One reverse, the ray is broken where it touches the two stars, so that you can see the lower right notch of the stars. On the Type Two reverse (and all subsequent Kennedies) the ray is continuous, and you cannot see the lower right notch of the two stars. .. Tom DeLorey .. Thanks, all, in advance! http://www.amigazone.com/images/june/1964hair.jpg --accented hair variety http://www.amigazone.com/images/june/1964nothair.jpg --regular Proof The easiest diagnostic is the letter "I" in LIBERTY. If the lower left hand foot or serif is missing from the "I" it's the Accented Hair variety.. The Accented Hair variety also has a pronounced "V" shape in the hair over JFK's ear, and there's also a difference in the stars and rays to the right of the Eagle on the reverse that is too hard to explain (for me .. Just look for the missing serif, that's the easiest way to tell. These are photos from TeleTrade auctions.. open a browser window, load one, then load the other, then use your backward and forward buttons to flip between them.. Harv |
