Russian notes? Or something else?
According to serial numbers probably all these notes were printed in late 1919 by Bolsheviks.
Citizens had no trust in Soviet money (so called SovSznaki) and Bolsheviks were printing Czarists money to finance their activity. Yes, 100 and 500 Rubles are the notes, not bonds. 500 Ruble is type of 1912 and at these times (at introduction, 1912) it was representing a signigicant ammount of money- 50 10 ruble Gold coins (!) = 8.3g X 50 = about 450g of Gold. The annual salary of qualified worker ! Exchange of money for Gold had no restrictions at 1895 - 07.1914 in Russia. Darren Garrison wrote: Thanks. The size of some of these-- especially the 500 rouble one-- made me question if they were banknotes, and might have instead have been some sort of bonds or stocks certificates or something. The first note is for one rouble and says 1898 but was actually issued beginning in 1915.
