Default Italian 100 lire of 1946

It is not commonly known that the distinctive 100 lire of the post-war
Democratica definitive issue has two plates, which can readily be distinguished
by the presence or absence of a notch near the top of the right margin.

This stamp is particularly interesting as there are no less than 73 different
combinations of plate, perforation and watermark, many of which are exceedingly rare.
I have only managed to find about 14 variations so far!

Collecting them in mint state is expensive too, as the standard stamp is over
150 euro in mounted mint condition.

See http://www.italianstamps.co.uk/repub...def/index.html
for details.

I should add that the SG price is no less than GBP 550 in unmounted
mint!

for details.

The page has been updated again to give further information on all the
Democratica issues,
and these stamps will be covered in even more detail before long.
