FA: Two Triton Auction catalogs
Hello all,
I'm cleaning out my basement and have decided to get rid of my old auction catalogs, particularly the Classical Numismatic Group and Triton as they take up the most space. I've put up two of the Triton catalogs on eBay to test the waters: $1.00 starting bids, no reserve, ending Sunday night. Triton II catalog- tons of ancient coins: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=222420591 9 Triton IV catalog- ancient coins, plus an important collection of Polish coins: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=222421002 2 Thanks for looking, Robert A. DeRose, Jr. |

Well, there was no Bellaria collection- does that answer your question? While there isn't a ton of Sasanian in either auction, there are some nice pieces. Triton II has only three Sasanian coins, but two are rare crown varieties of Ardashir I drachms, and the third is a Shapur II AV dinar. Triton IV includes AV dinars of Varhran II and Khusro II, a billon tetradrachm of Shapur I in typical Sasanian crown (much rarer than the billon tets of Ardashir I in Parthian-style tiara), and a very rare hemidrachm of Shapur of Persis, c. 200- 209 AD, when the progenitors of the Sasanians were still Parthian vassals. So not a huge number of Sasanian coins listed, but you might still be interested in placing a bid. -Robert A. DeRose, Jr. |
