Question: Scott Internation, Part 2 - Algeria Scott # for This?
Hi,
Me again. Since I'm posted wanted ads anyway, I figured I'd break down and ask this questions. It's been bugging me for some time. In the Scott International Part 2 pages for Algeria (1944-49), I have a missing stamp and I can't indentify exactly what I should be looking for, by Scott #. I've seen other "well filled" albums and this stamp seems to be a common hole. Argh. I'll have to take my own picture of it, the one online that inspired me to finally ask isn't as good as I thought ... hang on a sec. Ok, I'm mildly embarrassed to show my messy page. Ok, so I have worse. Please take a look: http://www.mr2ice.com/AlgeriaPart2Page.jpg http://www.mr2ice.com/AlgeriaPart2CloseUp.jpg I've looked over my catalogs and unless I'm being really dumb (and that's a realistic possibility , I can't find a listing for "30c Black, Red Orange and Yellow". On the big/full page, the hole should be obvious, 3rd row from the bottom, far right side. The closeup shows it very clearly. Can anyone PLEASE help and tell me what I should be looking for? Scott # would be great!! Thanks in advance, Nick |

If you need a scan let me know and I'll post or send you one. -- Tony Vella, Ottawa, Canada http://tv-stamps.shorturl.com |

Hi Nick. You are missing the overprinted France no. 563, the coat of arms of Alsace. If you need a scan let me know and I'll post or send you one. Tony! Thanks. Ok, I see the listing for France 563, but still no reference of it in the Scott 2007 catalog for Algeria. Is it really not listed under Algeria? Could Scott have included it in there albums yet omitted it from their catalog? Very odd. Sure, I'd love a scan. Please? The listing for France shows only the lower value stamp and obviously this one looks different. Without a Scott #, I'll have to match by sight. The email I'm posting with is functional, at least for awhile longer. Thanks again. Nick |

Scott # would be great!! Thanks in advance, Nick I checked Yvert for Algeria and they only list the 10c ARMS OF CORSICA (#243) and the 50c ARMS OF LORRAINE (#244). There is no missing number. Maybe the 30c was planned for Algeria (it was overprinted for Reunion) but did not materialize in Algeria. Blair |

It is possible that Scott included it based on skimpy post-war info and then later deleted it from the cat once it was realized that it was a ghost. |

My working album has a title page that says 1950. This isn't completely true, as I have created a little bit of a mutant. Having browsed through dozens of remnant albums and piles upon piles of loose album pages acquired from all over, I've managed to add some non-original pages. However, "most" pages are from 1950, including the one in question. Checking a Part 2 I have in another pile, it has the same page with a copyright date of 1953. I'll watch for a newer album to see what later versions of this page contains. Nick |

That stamp does not appear in the Gibbons France ( inc colonies before
independence) either - mine is a 1982 copy. Malcolm |
