Default FA: WWI Era 1912 British-Australia-New Zealand Id'd Wosley Pattern Sun Helmet, Exc.

WWI Era 1912 British-Australia-New Zealand Id'd Wosley Pattern Sun Helmet,
Exc.

This original WWI era, dated 1912, British-Australia-New Zealand Wolsey
Pattern Tropical Sun Helmet is complete and all original. It is in excellent
condition. It is identified to a Corporal in the New Zealand Army. The
helmet is a Khaki cotton covered cork pith helmet having a button on the top
that vents. It has a puggaree around the helmet with the 3rd Battalion
Wellington Regiment (blue-red-blue) wool (flash) badge on the side. The
interior is all original and has green cotton facing cloth lining. The
lining has minor staining from sweat and minor wear (see pictures). The
helmet has an original brown leather sweatband chinstrap. The interior of
the helmet is marked and has the British-New Zealand Crown with (W.D.) and
the Broad Arrow stamp, and dated (1912). The helmet has the soldiers name,
rank, and unit inscribed on the inside. It is inscribed, (Corp. L (or I)
Morgan, 1043, 3rd Howitzer Battery).
This helmet is in excellent original condition. It is still solid (no
crushing to the helmet cork). It has not been reworked at all and in its
original condition. This would be worthy of further research. These Sun
Helmets are described in Marzettis Book on military headgear titled (Combat
Helmets of the World). This Sun Helmet came from a local military collector
who collected WWI headgear. The owner is downsizing his collection. Feel
free to e-mail with any questions.
