Hey all:

So what do you think about these auctions, all for signed books?

http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZmicongwQQhtZ-1

The photos suck. And the signatures all seem to be with the same pen.
Even Eudora Welty, from 1956, seems to be signed with a sharpie. Did
they exist back then?

I have an inscribed copy of 'Mambo Kings', ending in 12 minutes, and
the case in 'Songs of Love' is reversed from the on for auction.

Looking at both the open and closed auctions, I checked out several sigs
I have some familiarity with--Smiley, Capote, Millhauser, Vonnegut,
DeLillo--and every one of them seemed to be a very bad forgery. All the
signs are the angles where there should be curves, uneven lines,
inconsistent letter size, and on and on. The Smiley is particularly
ugly--hell, I could do that one better.
