Our crazy newsgroup pest palmjob is
bouncing off walls again in his
desperate attempt to refute the irrefutable.

Pick up any stamp collector's magazine or catolog and try to find the
word mint - ain't there palmjob, you hemorrhoid.
But keep posting palmy, I just love to watch you make a fool of
yourself with your incredible pomposity and equally incredible talent
of ALWAYS being wrong.
Maybe you and Barky should form your own group and put your alleged
wits to use there.

Liar! No one has to go farther than the
websites run by the biggest postage
stamp dealers, the one's who have
been in business for generations. They
all use the term "mint," because it is
a time-honored term of the stamp-
buying and selling trade. But then,
you are simply using another favorite
tactic of the Crazy Newgroup Pest:
the bald-faced whopper, Finnan.

Palmer, Bob Finnan may be annoying, and frquently a jerk, but he's OUR
jerk.

On the other hand, you may have him beat - you are *everyone's* jerk.

If "OUR" refers to a bunch of benighted
clods and self-appointed owners of an
unmoderated newgroup, then you are
certainly welcome to crazy newsgroup
pest Bob Finnan.

On the other hand, you may have him beat - you are *everyone's* jerk.

What we see there is your fantasy,
Webster. You have no call for
terming me a jerk. I post in this
group to share my thoughts about books,
and to relate some of my experiences with
them. I don't go around attacking
others simply because I disagree
with them. As perhaps the most
famous Usenet poster, I need no
introduction. Bob Finnan
introduced himself to me with
a mean-spirited, animalistic
attack. Yes, he was whining for
attention, we all know that, but
there was a cowardly and vicious
tone to those unpleasant whines,
and he richly deserves the
painful raking-over-the-coals he is
getting now. Whee..

Careful there, Bud. You are now dealing with *The* Bill Palmer. Who,
by posting here, has made this group his. After all, the mere
presence of 'Usenet's Most Famous Poster' should bring new meaning to
our lives and an inner peace to _ALL_ of us.
One would think that after hearing "STFU, Palmer" from the early days
of Usenet (mid '90's, IIRC), most people would take the hint and
moderate their message. Palmer, on the other hand, has been wasting
bandwidth from the time bandwidth was REALLY precious.
Frankly, I shouldn't have wasted this amount of time.

Best,

Dave

Oh, you're right, of course. I just get a kick out of tweaking the
self-important little yutz from time to time. I keep hoping he'll
call me a "poltroon" again. That, or offer to come over and clean all
my books with bleach.

Watch for other clues such as the

Hey brainiac, stamps are PRINTED - you know, like a book!
You do know what a book is, don't you, palmjob?

I would have expected a more intelligent
response from an amoeba, Finnian. It
was a shockingly stupid response, even
for a wheezing newsgroup ninny like you.
As far as your attempt at tricky word play,
I think an amoeba could pull off a more
clever ploy than your pitiful attempt to
be sly, too Sorry to shock you with things
you know nothing about, but "mint" has
for many generations been a legally
recognized term of the stamp collecting
trade.

"Mint" is a generally accepted term among stamp collectors. "Minted"
is not.

If you read the above, you will see that
I never asserted that "minted" was a
customary term in stamp collecting.
Yes, in my post previous to that I strayed
somewhat from strict stamp collecting
terminology in order to emphasize my
point. On the other hand, this is not a
stamp collecting group, and the thing
our crazy newsgroup pest tried to divert
attention from is the fact that "mint"
is not a term of the used and rare
book trade. When you see "mint"
misemployed in a book listing, you
are seeing evidence that an amateur
posted the listing, and you are seeing
a warning sign that that there may
be other serious inaccuracies in
the description.

[Memo from the upstairs office]

"Mint" is an adjective. "Minted" is a verb form.

You did assert (posting of August 8, 1 p.m. according to Google) that
stamps are minted. In fact they are not.

Yes, it is true I was a bit careless in my phrasing.
I meant (as I have already explained several
times) that "mint" is a proper designation of
condition for both stamps and coins. Finnan,
in a deplorable spasm of reckless public
ignorance, even went as far as to deny that
"mint" is an accepted term of the stamp
hobby/trade for describing condition! Anyway,
what I sincerely hope is not obscured here,
especially for those new to book collecting,
is that "mint" is not now, and never has
been, a term used by knowledgeable book
collectors or sellers to describe the
condition of a book. Seen properly, it is
far more a red warning flag than a descriptive
term. Hope this helps you.
