NEW QUIZ SHOW: ABC TV

Calling all trainspotters, enthusiasts, boffins and brainiacs!

If you have a hobby, past-time or area of interest that doesn't form
part of your "day job" and you know an enormous amount about it, then
consider the following!

ABC TV is currently searching for contestants to take part in a fun,
new quiz show for broadcast in 2004.

Contestants competing in the programme will be quizzed on their
nominated specialist area of knowledge. It may be anything from the
"Early films of Marilyn Monroe", to the "Weapons of World War One", or
perhaps it could be "Competitive surfing at Bells Beach", or "Planets
of our Solar System".

The programme will be filmed in Melbourne, though contestants will
also be recruited from interstate following an application and
audition process. Contestants will compete on the programme for a
chance to be the national winner. There will be no prizes involved,
but plenty of prestige!

So if you're an expert on a subject or topic and you've been waiting
for a chance to show it off to a national audience, then get in touch
and let us know your specialty area ASAP! Just remember that it cannot
be an area of knowledge that forms part of your profession or
occupation- it must be a hobby or past-time.

For more information or to volunteer yourself as a possible
contestant, contact the Quiz office on (03) 9524 2481.

Uh huh. We know that.

"Anyway, the concept is interesting. My first reaction was that I
prefer not to be humilated on national television. I mean, if you
CLAIM to be an expert and lose, that's pretty bad, right?... But it
never goes like that because the producers need something better for
the audience to get involved in, so there will be some measurable
level of success and PRIZES! for any selected contestant. Unless you
are competing against OTHER experts... then you could get wiped out...

Mostly, it would be the experience of doing it. If you have never
been on television, it is something to learn from. Mostly, the
experience itself is terrifying while you are being pushed through it
but professionals who treat you like meat. The smile muscles get a
work out. But afterward, you never look at TV the same. I did two
quiz shows and it is amazing how blank your mind can be. You either
know it or you do not. For me, under the lights, thinking is
impossible. It is all reflex."

You remember Cleveland's It's Academic. I was on the show in March of
1965 representing Saint Augustine Academy. I missed a baseball
question. Me, of all people. The nuns in the audience let out a
groan. In unison. I couldda died.

;-)
