FA: a better date Barber half than I realized when I listed it
Ok, so I sell my coins because I have accumulated lots and lots over 40
years- so many that I sometimes, er oftentimes, get a pleasant surprise when I am searching for one coin and run across others that I had forgot I had, and 'gee, that's nice, I wonder where I got that from'. I'm listing some coins the other day and Ihave some pretty worn Barber halfs in front of me. I must have brought them from home when I was selecting some more stuff to sell. Thes 4 halfs are in the AG to good range, so I think I will list two at a time, because I am likely to get silver melt or slightly higher. I photograph two at a time, and I don't get to serious about the grades, just slap them on eBay and call them AG-Gs, and throw in a decent picture. Half a day later, one auction is at $20. Huh? So, I check the dates and the 1897-O retails for $70 in good. Well, my 97-O is more of an AG, but still, it should get more than silver melt. Looking at the three other Barber halfs I listed, the 1903 is the common, both of the other New Orleans bring a little more. The 1897-O; http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3043535146 Funny thing, I have a 1914-S Barber quarter right in front of me that I was going to photograph. Most of "LIBERTY" shows ( E is gone and about half of B and T show), but not quite all. I did check the price guides on it and saw that it lists for $80 in VG and $150 in Fine. The coin has a nice look, but has darkened with a color that looks like it had been cleaned once. When I list it, it will be an interesting auction, I think. Bill |
