The coin is described as having "original toning." Therefore, it can't
have been wiped with a Brillo pad or anything else. g

Original has many definitions. Not necessarily first or only.

I did a repaint of my car in original factory color.

But "original toning" has only one definition.

Toning on a coin that hasn't been cleaned. Original. Not retoning.

Hmm, so if I take my 2003 SAE and throw it in the oven for a few seconds
the toning is original?

I'd call that artifically induced. But in light of the unarticulated
definition you responded to, it must be Original Toning. ;-/

Is that anything like original sin?
"Father, I have had extramarital relations with my neighbor."
"Heard it. I need to hear an original sin."

Yes. But it's not natural. Look, this isn't difficult. If a seller
describes an old coin as having "original toning," buyers and would-be
buyers regard this as meaning that the coin hasn't been cleaned and
that the toning on it has resulted from the natural process of the
metal on the coin's reacting to its environment without a deliberate
attempt on the part of humans to induce these chemical changes. When a
coin has been cleaned, among the things removed from its surfaces are
original toning. The seller in the case of the coin discussed in the
opening post of this thread made the ridiculous assertion in his
auction description that this harshly cleaned coin had original
toning.
