Wow, even the + feedback is telling. When you run that user ID thru toolhaus.org, the message is clear: Run away screaming. Don't bid, don't even probe with an Ask-Seller. Some further random observations: 1. When there is banal listing content (all caps, hawking item as "investment", etc.), don't necessarily assume it's a bent seller. Sometimes clueless sellers use monkey-see monkey-do copies of copy from other clueless sellers. In this case, of course, it's the tip of the iceberg. 2. When a suspicion arises, do an Ask-Seller. The answer (or lack thereof), and means of response delivery, can be quite telling. 3. Looking at some of the -FB comments: Don't commit Policy violations before, during or after the dispute. You can switch yourself from victim to violator. Mentioning the eBay/PayPal dispute in the comment is such a no-no. It can lead to the FB being removed. eBay needs a generous Blocked-Sellers-List for buyers, with various features and benefits. There are poster children for this advocacy. -- Regards, Bob Niland http://www.access-one.com/rjn email4rjn AT yahoo DOT com NOT speaking for any employer, client or Internet Service Provider. |

Instead of a block seller feature, what I'd like to see is a Seller Note function. Where, as a buyer, you could add a short (20-30 character max) note that would appear by a sellers user ID & feedback score in the auction description. The note would only be seen by the person who added it and only for sellers they choose to add a note for. That way you would not only be reminded about why certain sellers are bad (such as slow shipper), but you could also add positive notes for sellers that you have had above average transactions with. And by not completely blocking a seller, you could still optionally risk bidding if you really want an item. eBay could even implement the notes (if they included a score) into the order of search results. I know you can add notes under favorite sellers, but those notes do not appear in the descriptions. I do not believe that there is currently any indication that a seller is on your favorite sllers list when you do a general search? |

Recently bought a set of roosevelt dimes on ebay listed as ALL uncirculated. Here's the text from the ebay listing: I will try read this with an objective open mind. Others will simply salivate at the prospect of browbeating someone. Please ignore them. They are sick in the head. HERE IS A COMPLETELY FILLED ROOSEVELT SILVER DIME BOOK. ALL DATES ARE FILLE IN AND ALL COINS ARE UNCIRCULATED, VERY NICE FIND INDEED. 49 TOTAL ROOSEVELT DIMES HERE AND A WONDERFUL COLLECTION FOR AN INVESTMENT. SILVER IS A SAFE HAVEN FOR INVESTORS IN AN UNSTABLE ECONOMY. WILL START AT .99 AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION Here's seller's return Policy from the ebay listing: Return policyItem must be returned within: 7 Days Refund will be given as: Money Back Return policy details: IF YOU FEEL THIS IS NOT AS DESCRIBED HERE I WILL TAKE BACK OK. The CAPS would have worried me - a yellow flag perhaps. No real red flags there. Another yellow flag is his harping on the "good investment" aspect but, hey, maybe he really believes that. When received, the set had 8 uncirculated coins and 40 circulated (those coins were cleaned and polished - nice & shiney). Here's the email string with the seller so so far - what do you think (entire exchange below happened inside of 3 hours): Dear seller, Received this item today. The set is not uncirculated. In fact, the only dimes that are uncirculated are the 54S, 55S, 59P, 60D, 61PD, and 63PD - 8 out of 48. The rest have been cleaned and worked to make them appear shiney. Please confirm back via email and I will get them back to you ASAP for a refund. Dear colorfulcoins, Here we go again. Thesimple fact is with Ebays new rules I have no other choice. I do not beleive there cleaned and you obviously are one of those people who is hoping to get a whole lot more than you actually paid for. Either way your going to giv me a neg.,,let me ask you, what do you think you would pay if you bought these at a coin show. Ill tell you how much, 150 -200. Ive discovered in my time on Ebay that people sometimes like to "try stuff out and if they didnt hit a home run. there like, screw the seller, has HAS to take this back" "Here we go again..." ? "...sometimes like to "try stuff out"..." I am a seller on eBay. I have not experienced this phenomenon. I have almost 2000 feedbacks. I have had minor problems with exactly two buyers. In both cases when I admitted to them that I was not perfect and did deserve to take some responsibility there were no problems afterward and I ended up with a positive feedback from one of them. Dear colorfulcoins, I will take back under the follwing conditions: I am not refunding shipping either way, I get a 10% restocking fee and we agree to a mutually agreed to commitment so I dont get hit with Ebay and Paypal fees. OH...ps, I dont need to hear how long you have been collecting and your whole resume of your coin collecting life like people so often do here on Ebay. Bottom line is you thought you got a home run paying a singles price. He can't know this for a fact. He really should not go there. Dear seller You seem to have a rather large ebay chip on your shoulder but that's not my problem. Bottom line, the set was misrepresented and I know the difference between uncirculated and circulated. We can do this the nice way or the ugly way. I prefer the nice way. Here's how the nice way works: 1. I will send the set back. I will pay for it. 2. You will refund 100% of my purchase price via PayPal (that's how I paid). 3. You can file a NPB on ebay to get back your selling fees, saying I returned the item and you have refunded my payment. I will agree and ebay will return your selling fees. 4. Do the above, and I will leave positive ebay feedback. And we both move on. I think that's pretty fair. Please confirm and we can get this done. If I were the seller in this situation I would take the offer, run, and never look back. Then again, if I were the seller my auction would have stated most of the coins were cleaned. I had a couple returns recently where the seller pulled that "less eBay fees" crap. In one case I gently informed the seller that he could get his fees back by filing a form and that I would be happy to agree with his claim. Without me asking, the seller refunded the eBay fees to me after I sent my agreement. This seller that you are dealig with is not a good seller from this point of view. Dear colorfulcoins, First of all I can tell this will be ugly because you wont respond through Ebay, but rather through my private email. Look I have already had one psychotic give me 11 negs because he was sure I was part of the CIA and looking to OUT him from his covert position. Do you think one more is going to matter after that? Ive already blocked you and im just no longer going to let people like you screw me...no more. Enough I know so manys sellers who have left Ebay becuase of people like you. I have a chip against people like you always looking to only pay half of the worth of something and when they dont get it they scream like a stuck hog...just like you. Lemme guess, your in your fifties plus right? Your all alike. You have my terms, if you dont like them file a complaint with Ebay, tell me how many years you have been collecting, which I know you will do, and then feel like in your own "little" way your FIRING me when you give me a neg. Simple fact is some people get a vicarious thrill out of leaving negs, it makes them feel superior in a life they otherwise dont like. I can already tell your very arrogant. I ALSO WILL NOT RESPOND TO ANY OTHER EMAILS NOT SENT THROUGH EBAY. Someone who holds such contempt for people in general probably should see to it that he does not have to deal with them. Dear colorfulcoins, Oh and heres what else you will do. You will pop superior coin and fill it with junk and say thats what you got. Its happened to me before on Ebay, not this time. I am sick and tired of dishonest buyers screwing me over and not being able to do a thing about it. I sold a Barber quarter page and the guy popped out the most valuable coin and stuck a slug in and thats what he said he got. Forget it, Im on to you people. Nice, huh? So I've opened a PayPal dispute and immediately moved it to a claim where PayPal interceedes and makes a determination. There's no way I'm going to be able to work with this seller directly given the above. This is my first experience with using the PayPal claim process (item significantly different than advertised). Ever been down this road and how did it end up? I have filed such a dispute twice. In the first case the seller refused to honor his return policy, fought me tooth and nail, and hurled insults at me. He even documented said insults directly in the Paypal case. Even though one total nutjob poster in this NG saw me as being in the wrong, PayPal sided with me and I got my money back. In the second case I bought a copy of Windows Vista. The price was awesome. The seller had recently changed his ID and was selling a lot of copies but had already received positive feedback from another buyer of Vista. After two weeks my copy had not arrived and I asked the seller for a status. After three weeks and another attempt at contacting the buyer I filed a case. PayPal sided with me but, alas, sent me an apology saying they could not retrieve funds from the seller. His feedback had gone from +30 something to -2 in between the time I made my purchase and filed the claim. All was not lost, however. I had used my credit card and the charge was instantly reversed. Moral of my story - PayPal misleads their customers and tries to shoo buyers away from credit cards in any way they can - stopping just short of breaking the law to do so. Whenever I have to pay with PayPal I always, ALWAYS, move whatever balance I have into my checking account and use a credit card to make the payment. It protects me MUCH more than PayPal ever will, despite what the lies that PayPal puts into my web browser when I change my funding source to a credit card. If you used a credit card - no worries. If you did not you better hope PayPal has their grubby hands in the seller's bank account. -- "Line up alphabetically by height" - Bill Peterson, Florida State Head Football Coach |

We have always given full refunds in the perhaps 2 or 3 cases out of 7500 or so ebay sales where someone has been displeased. I don't know why so many major sellers continue to mention "less ebay and Paypal fees" when the ebay Final Value Fees and Paypal fees are 100% refunded to the seller. Not sure if the initial listing fees are refundable, but that would be petty to make an unhappy customer pay for that, since they have already been inconvenienced. -- RARE COIN AUCTIONS NO RESERVES www.frankcoins.com http://myworld.ebay.com/frankcoins Texas Auction License 11259, Board member of Texas Coin Dealers Association, Member TNA, ANA, PCGS, NGC Full Time SInce 1991 |
