Does anyone know the value of a pound of American coins? I realize this
could span a range, but approximately ... ?

I've always thrown my pocket change in various containers, and I'm
wondering how much I have - but not ready to cash it in yet. (Guess I'm
waiting for 2012!)

I'd say that £1 of USA coins is right now about USA$1.96.

Might be a good idea to sort them into denominations, then take it from
there.

A pound (16 oz.) of U.S. cents is about $1.46.
A pound of U.S. nickels is about $4.55.
A pound of U.S. dimes is about $20.
A pound of U.S. quarters is about $20.
A pound of U.S. halves is about $20.
A pound of current U.S. dollar coins is about $56.

To compute, divide 453.59237 (grams per pound) by the weight of the
coin (in grams), then multiply the result by the face value of the
coin.
