Deliberate Defacement?
Hello all,
I have noticed that many of the coins on Ebay have what looks like deliberately made scratches on either to obverse , reverse or both. Is this just me or is there something going on to make unmarked coins more valuable? Thks! Luek |

Deliberate Defacement?
Got a link to these defaced coins? Many coins were turned into "Love Tokens"
in the 19th century and were deliberately defaced with initials etc. Is that what you are referring to? "Luek" wrote in message ... Deliberate Defacement? (1/1)
"Luek" wrote in message ... The X on the cent had to be deliberate but the scratches on the Morgan could have been accidental. It's unlikely that these are being listed to drive up prices for undamaged coins. Like most conspiracy theories, this has a much simpler explanation. The owners just want to get rid of these holdings. Maybe they found an undamaged piece to replace the scratched one, maybe they realized that they weren't worth holding, maybe they just got them dirt cheap and hope to make a few bucks by flipping them on e-Bay. Out of curiosity, how did you manage to post them in a newsgroup venue so that the pics actually display in the reader pane as a photo and not just a hash of the graphic file? |

I've yet to see any pics, and I'm thankful of that. We're not supposed to see binaries in this group nor are HTML messages welcome. However, if you saw pics and I didn't I can't tell you why. Unless my ISP, or some ISP up the chain stripped them out. I was going to offer to host the images for a short while ... Nick |
