Coingate: Supreme Court to appoint someone to examine documents withheld
OHIO SUPREME COURT
_The Ohio Supreme Court said it would appoint someone to examine documents that Attorney General Jim Petro has declined to make public as an investigation continues into coin dealer Tom Noe's handling of a $50 million state investment in rare coins. Acting on a request by The (Toledo) Blade, the court on July 13 ordered Petro to release transaction and business records from Tom Noe's now-closed coin funds. Petro has 11 attorneys and staff culling 500,000 pages of documents that mix coin transactions and Noe's personal records. By law, Petro must black out any personal information, like Social Security numbers, and a task force of investigators has asked that he not release investigatory records. |
