A slab is typically a transparent plastic rectangular sealed holder
for a coin which has been authenticated and graded by a third-party
company such as PCGS or NGC. The slab will have a label indicating the
coin's type, mint mark and grade as well as an identifying number.
Some companies will also include additional information as to whether
or not the coin has been cleaned, damaged or otherwise impaired.

And, of course, the year in which it was struck.

When you buy a slabbed coin from someone
else, make sure that the plastic surface isn't
all scratched up...It's hard to resell them.

I put my slabs in separate baggies.

Also, not all slabs are created equal.
For instance, PCGS' typically bring a little more in terms of $'s and
stricter grading.
NGC, ANACS and ICG are also all top companies. Most others, be careful.
