Bravo ThibauT,
you are correct, and I elaborate:

Many thanks ;o)))

[snip]

Technical details:
Paper Booklets.................JAC B100
Printer rolls of 100............SNP Print

Hence the differering perfs (I would guess)

I think the same, 2 different printers, 2 different presentation of
sales, 2 different perforations

I'll keep a lookout when soaking for the different perf styles.

I will make a scan tomorrow, detail the past issues with these 2 perf
for p&s and post it on rcsd
you will see how easy is it, when you have saw it one times ;o)

I think there are three cousins,

die cut gummed
die cut self adhesive
and perfed gummed

| Hi,
| I think that Raphael (stamps4ra) talked only about the differences
| between 2 adhesive stamps, not from a gummed and a adhesive ;o)

In Canada , we also have perfed self adhesive.
However, I believe that they are fake perfs
and are part of the die cut to make people
relate to them as "real stamps".

Hi all,

die cut gummed
die cut self adhesive
and perfed gummed

In Canada , we also have perfed self adhesive.

2 kinds of gummed and 1 of adhesive?? I do not understand this, for me
it's 2 kinds of adhesive and 1 kind of gummed but it's hard technical
terms in my head...
and in my Canada collection, sometimes I'm very confused in
identifying die-cut serpentine adhesive and so on stamps (

However, I believe that they are fake perfs
and are part of the die cut to make people
relate to them as "real stamps".

For Australia, it's quite easy I think, I will try to explain ;o)

For me, there are 3 kinds of stamps (it's my personnal terms, not
official) and it corresponds (in order of appearance) at the stamps on
this page:
url:http://perso.wanadoo.fr/philatelie-et-cie/imagesdiverses/WAGSAaustralia.jpg

-gummed
the more simple, perfed water-activated stamps ;o)
perf. 14*14 1/2
it looks like a 'real and traditionnal' stamp, easy to recognise

-self-adhesive 'classical'
peel & stick corresponding to die-cut adhesive if I well understood
perf. 11 1/2
it's really different from the gummed and easy to recognise

-sel-adhesive '2nd perf'
peel & stick corresponding to perfed adhesive I guess
perf. 12 1/2*13
it looks like a 'gummed' stamp without attention, but when the
difference is known, it's easy to separate it from the true gummed.

That's for the basis, not too much difficult is it?? ;o)

In addition and according to the Scott, there are issues in coil
serpentine die cut and booklet serpentine die cut or issues in die-cut
and serpentine die-cut, but I do not understand the difference...
It's the same perf of 11 1/2, so any explanation is appreciated.

Michel catalogue gives some varieties of perf for the self-adhesive
classical, but as I said in a previous post, it's too much specialised
for the moment. Let's begin with the 2 kinds of adhesive, take a look
at your stamps, and in the future I can give the Michel details if you
want ;o)

For the 'australian-addict' beginners, I will list the issues with
adhesive stamps (it's a long text). I specify when it's an 'adhesive
2nd perf'.

The first p&s are 2 sports stamps issued in 1990 and 1991:
41c cycling Scott 1185 (issued gummed in 1989)
43c skateboarding Scott 1186 (issued gummed in 1990)

The second p&s set is 'threatened species' issued for expos in 1992
6*45c Scott 1241-1246
(a lot of imprints later in 1994 with NPC inscriptions and different
values)

After this, p&s issues appear more often :
1993 australian trains
6*45c Scott 1330-1335

1993 Dinosaurs
2*45c Scott 1348-1349

1994 Zoos
2*45c Scott1390-1391
it's the first time that p&s and gummed have a different design : p&s
stamps have a white border

1994 Sydney-Hobart Race
2*45c Scott 1397-1397A

1994 ATM Triangle Roo
6*45c Scott 1398-1405
Note: it's self-adhesive stamps but it looks like gummed stamps, this
set is apart in the p&s issues

1994 Roos and Koalas
6*45c Scott 1288-1293
(a lot of imprints later in 1994 with NPC inscriptions and different
values)

From the year 1995, self-adhesive issues are common and many sets have
the p&s stamps :

1995 WW II heroes
4*45c Scott 1436-1439

1995 Centenary of Cinema
5*45c Scott 1446-1450

1995 Marine Life
6*45c Scott 1466-1471

1995 Christmas
40c Scott 1475
the first p&s christmas stamp, it would be regular for following
christmas

1996 AFL
16*45c Scott 1508-1523

1996 Children's Book
4*45c Scott 1548-1551

1996 Pets
2*45c Scott 1564-1565

40c Scott 1570

1997 Valentines'
45c Scott 1578

1997 Classic cars
4*45c Scott 1583-1586

1997 Nocturnal Animals

1998 Greetings
45c Scott 1648

1998 Farming
5*45c Scott 1656-1660

1998 Rockand Roll
12*45c Scott 1663-1674

1998 Butterflies
5*45c Scott 1695-1699

1998 Year of the ocean
2*45c Scott 1708-1709

1998 Christmas
40c Scott 1716

1999 Arthur Boyd
2*45c Scott1721-1722

1999 Love Rose
45c Scott 1724

1999 Flora
4*45c but BE CAREFUL, it's the first time of the 2 kinds of adhesive
perf, so it makes 8*45c !!
'classical' adhesive Scott 1742A-1742D
'2nd perf' adhesive Scott 1743-1746
(also coil stamps in 'classical' adhesive 1746B-1746E)

1999 Children's TV
5*45c Scott 1753-1757

1999 Rugby
2*45c Scott 1763-1764

1999 Snowy-Mountain
4*45c not in the Scott

1999 Small Pond Life
2*50c Scott 1791-1792
2*45c Scott 1793-1794
(another example of Die-Cut and Serpentine Die-Cut, but what's the
difference??)

1999 Christmas
40c Scott 1797

2000 The last Anzacs
4*45c Scott 1804-1807

2000 Gardens
5*45c Scott 1818-1822 or 1823-1827
slight difference in the perf 11 1/2*11 1/4 or 11 3/4 but looks like a
'classical' adhesive

2000 Paralympics
3*49c Scott 1852-1854
(slight variation of the perf also exists)
2*45c Scott 1855-1856

2000 Olympics Sports
10*45c Scott 1863-1872

2000 Space
2*45c Scott 1915-1916 (perf 11 1/2*111/4) or 1917-1918 (perf 11 1/2)

2000 Christmas
40c Scott 1924

My Scott doesn't go further so I give only a list without numbers (it
would be no more fastidious to read ;o) )

2001 Federation 2*49c
2001 Slim Dusty 2*45c
2001 Rock and Pop 10*45c
2001 Outback services 5*45c
2001 3 sisters (international) 50c
2001 Birds 4*45c in adhesive 'classical' and '2d perf'
(it's the scanned page for the exemple at the top of this very long
message! ) )
2001 Wild babies 5*45c
2001 Christmas 40c
2002 Scientists 5*45c
2002 Lighthouses 2*49c
2002 Racing cars 6*45c
2002 Namatjira 4*45c
2002 Plants from the Bush 5*49c
2002 Magic Rainforest 6*45c
2002 Christmas 40c

For 2003, please see the details in the Oz 2003 topic. I think that
this post is long enough! )

In conclusion, the '2d perf' adhesive is only present (for the moment)
in the Fauna & Flora issues, because of 2 different printers for these
sets.

I hope this description would be helpful, it is not clear, I will try
to 'speak' better or will ask Pierre for a very good translation !

I made a new topic because the post is a very long (I'm sorry for any
disturbance) and it's not related to the 2003 issues.

dear R's,

as far as I know, apart from the traditionally perforated stamps
in sheets, blocks or sheetlets, Australia Post issues stamps
in coils or stamp-booklets or stampcards that are self-adhesive and have
been [kiss] die-cutted [that is the die-cut only reaches the backing paper
and doesn't cut through]. There are no 'die-cut gummed' stamps, all are self-adhesive!

The die-cuts pseudo-perforation can always be recognised by the smooth edges
- no paper fibres sticking out - and usually can be distinguished as the shapes
of the die-cut are different: you can tell apart the 10x booklets from the 20-booklets,
the coils of 100 printed by Pemara or Sprintpak [or whatever other name they prefer
to use]. The differences sometimes are very subtile, but sometimes very obvious
and then the catalogues mention them explicitely; several coil-stamp definitives
printed by Pemara have a die-cut shape that looks almost like a traditional
comb-perforation!

I'm not sure whether Australia philatelist have described everything in their
philaleic magazines, but I think it's worth while trying to make such list.
Sometime ago I mentioned in this list several of the what I called then
sinoid shapes of the die-cut, by now I can discern at least 3 different shapes
which is enough..

groetjes, Rein

Mentioning the Australia Post Bulletin, please note (if you did not know
before) that, with effect from earlier this year, commemorative issues will
remain on sale at the Australian Philatelic Bureau for a maximum of six
months from their date of issue, compared with one year previously. Do not
delay buying your new issues therefore if you do so through this route.

Best regards, Roger
