Default Rock-Ola 461-100 problem

Having a problem with the gripper arm on my box (Rock-Ola 461-100). The
sequence of actions is correct but: the gripper takes the record from
the magazine and places it on the turntable but it releases the disc
just before it reaches the table, making it miss the centre. When the
disc has played the gripper arm lifts very slightly before gripping the
disc, resulting in it leaving the disc on the turntable.

Any ideas how to adjust this action please?

Common problem with machines that are not used regularly. This is not
an adjustment problem, it is a lubrication problem. The old grease and
oil in he gripper mech has gotten sticky and is causing it to bind.
First, cover the records with an old towel. Then soak the gripper mech
down with WD-40. Get it into the piston that slides in and out. here's
a small hole in the front. Squirt some in there. Squirt the piston with
the bow straight up and lift the bow up and down with your hand. Get
some on the side where the reversing cam is. Work it in. Give it time
to work, let it run until it works properly. If you want to re-lube it,
use a synthetic oil, they will not get sticky later on.

Many thanks Charlie. As you suggest, the machine had not been used for
some months when this missing the table/record problem suddenly
manifested itself. I have a service manual but alas, it tells nothing
of this problem. I thought that the sequence cams had gone out of
alignment but a careful examination showed them to be ok. I shall try
your suggestion this weekend - once again, many thanks.
