BIOT stands for British Indian Ocean Territory - check out on Google and
other search engines not just this but also Diego Garcia.

All snipped..

Mette, Regarding BIOT: I suppose it is still British Indian Ocean
territory but in reality it no longer exists. The British and American
military evicted all the natives and turned the place into a military
base.
BIOT postage is still alive.

To whom do the profits from the sale of stamps to collectors go then? The
evicted natives (or their lawyers trying to get compensation from the UK
government) or to the UK and US troops as a reward for having won the war on
terror?

Regards, Roger

Ralph, the BIOT still exists, as a combined US/British base. Roger, I
assume the profits from the sale of the stamps goes to the relief and
repatriation fund of the evacuated islanders.
