In article ,
Nooker wrote: although, now that the Queen Mum has passed, will Elizabeth II be called that at some point? It is highly unlikely. In UK usage: - Queen Regnant: a queen who is queen in her own right - Queen Consort: a queen who is queen because she's married to the king - Queen Dowager: someone who was a Queen Consort, but the king in question has died - Queen Mother: an informal title for a Queen Dowager who is the mother of the current sovereign. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was not queen in her own right (not a Queen Regnant), but rather was married to the reigning king, George VI (hence she was a Queen Consort). When G6 died, she became a Queen Dowager (along with her mother, still living), and since her daughter succeeded to the throne, also Queen Mother. Elizabeth II is not the wife of a king, but rather queen in her own right -- she's not a Queen Consort but rather a Queen Regnant. If her husband, Prince Philip, dies, she will still be Queen Regnant. The only way she can stop is by abdication via Act of Parliament, or by her own death. It would be possible for her to abdicate. Anyone's title and style is up to the sovereign, so a then King Charles III or King William VI could give her the title "Queen". But she's stated in multiple interviews that she has no intention of abdicating. Further, the practice has been that deposed kings no longer have the royal titles or styles (Prince Edward the Duke of Windsor, various deposed earlier kings), and the queens of the Netherlands who abdicated became Princess Whoever. So it's extremely unlikely on two grounds. -- Tim McDaniel; Reply-To: |

Writing "Queen Mothers" instead of "Queen Mother's" one suspects he also
believes there are two of them, as on the note.... Best wishes from the Arctic Jan Erik http://www.janeriks.no/Banknotes/index.htm "note.boy" skrev i melding ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...1729 519&rd=1 No prizes are offered. Billy |
