This sort of thing is unconstitutional. It is prohibited under the
cruel and unusual punishments clause. There are many many of us out
here that do not have any way to get to this sale.

When I checked the location of the sale on Google, I learned that the
library was only a half-hour walk from the train station. I don't
consider that a big deal so, as fair weather was predicted, I decided
to go for it.

It was a major disappointment to me (and a waste of $21 in train
fare). It was, when all is said and done, a libray sale--discards and
donations, mostly fairly recent stuff. The personal collections must
have been scattered among the various categories, and there was not a
shrink-wrapped book to be seen by 11 am.

If you were only interested in filling a bag (or box) with inexpensive
books, it was great. There certainly were a lot of books. But there
wasn't much there in collectible condition, IMO (way too many book
club editions). One of the three books I did buy turns out to have
check marks--in pen, of course--against a list inside. grrrrrr

The Fine Arts Festival was interesting to look at, and I took
postcards from two artists for possible follow-up. (Funnily, both
live
in NYC, same as me!)

Just my take; I'll be curious to read Francis' report...
