Canadians at fault for new Zambian polymer notes
From The Times of Zambia
http://www.times.co.zm/news/viewnews...&id=1064779943 Sunday, September 28, 2003 Canadian firm says sorry over faulty bank notes By Times Reporter CANADIAN Bank Note Company Limited (CBNC) has apologised for the defective serial number printing on some of the recently delivered K500 and K1,000 polymer bank notes. CBNC regional sales director Bernard Dickens said in a statement that his company was taking measures to ensure the rectification of the matter. Mr Dickens said CBNC deeply regretted the embarrassment caused to the Bank of Zambia (BOZ) and Government by the defective printing. ³We unreservedly apologise for this occurrence and accept full responsibility,² he said. The CBNC official reassured the public that steps had been taken to avoid repetition of the error with future deliveries of the new notes. The newly introduced K500 and K1,000 polymer notes were found to be highly susceptible to fraud. The red and black serial numbers could easily be rubbed off. But head of public relations Kabinga Pande said the problem only affected few notes which did not exceed K4.5 million. -end- FYI, the Bank of Zambia has a nice site explaining their older currency: http://www.boz.zm/Banking/zambian_currency_notes.htm FYI, a K500 note is worth approximately US$0.13 at today's rates of exchange. |
