Large Notes Rock!!!
Sibirskmoneta wrote: "John Ahnen" wrote in message ... Up to the recent past I have been primarily a collector of US coins. Yesterday I received my first large US note, a 1923 $1 Silver certificate. All I can say is WOW!! A new passion struck up. I'm in big trouble now; last night I won a "Black Eagle" and a 1917 GW $1. I may have to look at selling some of the coins in order to afford more paper. For those of you who collect both, which has the higher potential for appreciation in values? Thanks in advance. John Large sized notes have appreciated considerably during the last 15 yrs or so. I once had a collection of the 1914 series, but sold them to buy coins. I wish I had them now, they were beautiful notes. My daughter is the only one with a large size note, the 1917 SC. Large size US notes have increased in value so much that the average collector is often priced out of that market. There are only a few of them in circulated grade that I would consider reasonably priced anymore. The Indian chief, Bison and Educational series of 1896 are probably the most popular and have seen huge price increases in just the past few years. Prepare for sticker shock in these areas. |
