Default Mexican cancels

Hello,

I'm trying to track a cover sent from Bulgaria to Mexico and back again in
1933. There are several cancels and markings on the cover that I don't
know - expecially the Mexican ones - and I would appreciate some help from
the specialists I know are lurking out there somewhere.... ;-)

You can view the cover and the 15 markings he

Any corrections, additions and comments are welcome!

Regards,
Bjorn B

Bjorn:

1. The letter was mailed registered from Sofia, Bulgaria, 19. June
1933 (19.VI.933) with destination Tampico, Mexico. I'm not sure of the
significance of the "No 1" addition in the cancel.

I would guess Branch #1 (main PO ?)

2. The letter was probably sent by train to Vienna or London, but
there are no markings on the letter before it reached New York 28 June
(6.28.1933). I don't know what "Regy.div." means, but this might be a
customs cancellation...

stands for REGISTRY DIVISION

3. Then, 7 July the letter reached Tampico, Mexico. I don't know which
offices used these different cancels or what the text means: "Bultos
postales Tampico"...

stands for BULK MAIL, Tampico (city)
[I assume it refers to printed matter]

4. ...and "Primer aviso" -
any Spanish talking philatelists out there??

stands for FIRST NOTICE

5. This seems to be some kind of reception/receipt cancel, but no
numbers have been filled in...

control stamp of Nuevo Laredo city (New Laredo) 27.4° N 99.6° W
USA - Mexico crossover point for mail beside Laredo, Texas
http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/texas..._tx_1985.jpg.2

6. Is there anybody that knows the significance of these two number
markings...

Reference number in the registered mail register (book).

7. ...??

see reply for #6

8. The recipient did not claim the letter, however, and it finally had
to be returned to the sender. I assume "No reclamado" means "Not
claimed" and "REZAGOS" means "RETOUR".

as far as I know REZAGO means "left behind" or "Unclaimed"
Spanish for RETOUR would be VUELVA
(return to sender = vuelva al remitente)

"No reclamado" means "Not claimed" (correct)

9. This is the second registration cancel on the letter. Probably, a
registered letter had to be sent registered on the return as well.
This time with a Mexican cancel with the words "Rezagos" and
"Certificados No. 12".

Correct. Was registered (#12) for return trip from MEXICO CITY (?)
[Mexico DF = Mexico City]

10. 8 August 1933 the return travel has started, and the cover
receives this cancel with "Bultos postales Tampico" again....

Postal Bulk - Tampico (city)

11. At that time, international correspondence was not flown directly
into Bulgaria. Probably, the mail was flown to London or Vienna, then
transported by train to Sofia. Thus, this arrival cancel of 10
September (10.IX.33)is given at "Sofia Gare", or the Sofia Railway
Station.

correct

12. The same day the cover was transported to the main post office of
Sofia to receive another arrival cancel (10.IX.33)....

correct

I hope trhis is helpful.
