Default another strange lincoln

1997 yellow!!!? superb example. MS.
the only spot is on the rev where the strike was not great on the "of".
I've seen this on lots of cents.
Can anyone make any sense out of this cent being yellow?
Thanks, Doris

It might be gold plated as a novelty ("penny in a bottle," charm bracelett,"
etc.) or it might be:

Mixed alloy. Zinc-core cents melted down & re-formed into plating ... or was
it military shell casings? I don't remember the exact answer, but I *do*
remember the question, as I have quite a few examples & saw this post ... maybe
3 years ago? ... I think Phil might remember ....

It is from zinc core cents being plated and some of them get caught in
the plating mixture and become part of the plating mixture and this
creates a type of "brass" plating.
That is a lot of "plating" for one sentence!

Thanks Ken,
This one is the color of a lemon.
I have seen some pinkish-orange colored ones too. Those look like they
do have an extra coating, wrinkled paint? The yellow one is superb.
Don't think it has brass tho.
Thanks again.
Doris

If they're from Denver, do we say the "dog Deed on it"?

Crass, I know; and not as funny as "You Are An Idiot", "We Like The Moon", or
"CoinBird"; but it was the best I could come up with ...
